Popping Pearls

I am a pearl kind of girl. My daughter is a pearl girl.  We love pearls and wear them frequently.  My love of pearls began as a young child.  One of my strongest memories as a child is sitting on the front row of Trinity Baptist Church and playing with a string of pearls I had on.   Things were going on well until that string gave way and pearls began to pop all over that tile floor in that church.  I can remember thinking that they would never stop popping and rolling on that floor.  The next memory I have is the thump that I felt on the back of my ear.  My parents were sitting on the row behind me and my father’s favorite form of discipline was to thump the back of our ear when we misbehaved. I think that the practice of ear thumping is a lost art in our churches today.

Sometimes my life seems like those popping pearls.  One thing happens, then another, and another and it seems as if you have no ability to control what is happening.  It also feels as if God is thumping me on the back of the ear to get my attention when I lose my focus and become distracted by objects that I love more than Him.

Those pearls were going in every direction.  I had no ability to catch them or control where they went.  When the pearls in my life start popping and rolling it is time to make sure that I am looking to the only person who can pick up the pearls and restring them into their former beauty.  God is always ready to help us pick up the pearls in our life, He knows where they fall and controls how far they roll.

How are your pearls holding up?  Has your string broken lately?  Have you watched and listened as pearls popped around you and rolled completely out of your reach?  Know that your Father is right behind you willing to help you gather up the pearls and put everything back in order.

Hebrews 4:16
“Let us therefore boldly approach the throne of our gracious God where we may receive mercy and in his grace find timely help.”

Isaiah 26:3
“The steadfast of mind Thou wilt keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in Thee.”
