Old Pots   New Blooms

It is a perfect spring morning on my patio.  There are sounds of spring all around.  Weed eaters, lawnmowers, sprinkler systems are all making their unique sounds of work.  The birds are busy singing all around me. The colors of spring are unfolding around me with the blue sky, the new green growth of grass, the yellow daylilies and the red hibiscus.

This spring has been filled with doctor’s appointments and attention to more important issues than my patio.  Usually by this time I have thrown away all of the old plants and planted new flowers in my clay pots.  This year there has not been time or energy for that project.

But, as I sat on my patio this morning I realized that the old plants that looked hopeless and that would have normally been discarded had time permitted, were blooming and coming alive in those old pots!

Looking at these budding plants made me think that I am often impatient with God’s timing and how He would allow many more blooms in my life if I would take my hands off and allow Him the time He wants to work out His plan.

These flowers have reminded me of the hope that we have when circumstances look dark and hopeless.  There was life and promise in those pots just as we have life and hope in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6 NKJ
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Are there areas in your life where God seems to be slow in working?  He is right on time!  Take your hands off of the situation and give it to the Master Gardener who makes all things new.
