Oh No, My Cell Phone

Driving to work today, I realized that I left my cell phone at home. I was already miles down the road and knew I would be late if I went back home to get it. What a moment of anxiety I felt realizing I would not have that instant and constant connection with my family during the day.

I began to plan how to notify my family that I left my cell phone at home and where I would be during the day and how I could be reached if needed.

All of that thinking and anxiety led me to think about my communication with God. Do I get concerned when I allow sin, a busy schedule, distractions, or stress to hinder my prayer life and my time of personal Bible study?

How often has God attempted to speak into my heart and  found me not receptive? Even this morning, I felt His leading in a small thing, but did not respond with obedience. Yet, I am more anxious that my communication is hindered with my family than with my Heavenly Father.  Maybe  leaving my phone at home was a reminder from God that the most important communication in my life each day is with Him.  It is more important that those lines of communication are clear and always available. My heart must be receptive and my mind must be charged with His Word.

I love my family and enjoy texting and talking whenever we want to check on one another or share some news or something funny that has happened. We know that we always can reach each other if we have a need of any kind. We also enjoy just being able to say “I love you” or “Have a great day”. Nothing should be different with our communication with God.  All during the day we should be praising God and communicating our love and the needs of our life.

So, I’ll survive a day without my cell phone and hopefully will be called to improved communication with the one who is my Lord and Savior, My Rock and My Provider.

How is your communication with the Lord?  Is it open and continuous?  Are there times when the communication has been broken or there interference because of sin in your life? How can you improve your communication with the Lord so that you can know His will for your life?  Have you thanked Him today for the grace and mercy that is in your life because of His love?

John 8:31-32

Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him. “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine: and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.

Psalm 119:103-104

How sweet are Thy words to my taste!

Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

From Thy precepts I get understanding;

Therefore I hate every false way.
