Global Positioning System

I am the person in my family who always gets lost.  My sweet sister and brother-in-law give me very detailed directions and assure me that I cannot possibly get lost.  Well, I always get lost and frustrated!  My ability to get lost is legendary.

This year, my husband purchased a Global Positioning System (GPS) for our car.  On a recent trip to my sister’s home I ventured out with my daughter using the GPS.  We activated the system with the address we needed and proceeded to the first stop sign where the voice on the GPS said “Turn left in 500 feet”.  This is good!  I proceeded to the stop sign and began to make my right turn. (It seemed like the right way to go.)  My daughter began to laugh and said, “Mom, you have to listen to her”.  Well, now I have made a sad realization about my ability to follow directions.  Maybe I never listened to those directions.  Maybe I just headed out in the direction that seemed like the right way to go.

I am afraid that sometimes that may be my response to God’s direction in my life.  I know which direction seems logical even though He may be leading in another direction.  God has so faithfully promised to lead and guide us in our lives.  He, like my family, gives directions so that we do not get disoriented, lost and frustrated in our walk.  The issue comes down to our willingness to listen and obey His direction.

Are you looking for direction?  Are you seeking wisdom from God?  Are you listening for His direction?   Let God be your guidance system in your life.

James 1:5  NKJ
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
