Broken Hearts

There are three members of my immediate family.  My husband and I have one adult daughter.  Tonight, we are all suffering from broken hearts.  Each broken heart is somewhat different but somewhat similar.

My daughter called today and shared with me that her relationship with her boyfriend may soon end.  They had talked of marriage. They had dreams for the future.  Things are not working out as she had planned and now she has a broken heart.

My husband found out recently that he needs a heart transplant.  His physical heart is broken and can not be repaired.  He has a broken heart.

I have come to a decision that I do not want to continue to be a school principal.  I have asked the Lord for new direction and for a release from this career.  His very strong response to me has been NO and WAIT.  Those are not the answers that I wanted.  My heart is broken.

A lost love, a serious illness, a release from a responsibility can all be causes of a broken heart.  With each broken heart comes discouragement, fear, doubt, anger and sadness.  Each broken heart needs a treatment that only God can provide.  We are so blessed to know that God knows all about our broken hearts.  He loves us and pulls each of us close and provides the peace and comfort a broken heart needs.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” NKJ

Our Lord must treasure the trust that comes to Him through a broken heart. Sometimes we have to trust in the Lord with a broken heart.    When we do not understand the hurts, fears, disappointments or illness that comes our way, it is time to trust in the Lord with all of our heart.  We bring the wounded, damaged and broken heart and acknowledge our need for a healing touch and He will faithfully provide the peace and comfort to heal our hearts.

Our broken hearts have different causes.  We each hurt.  Each broken heart brings us to the Lord for healing.

How is your heart?  Has it been broken, damaged or wounded?  Do you need a healing touch from the Lord?  He knows all about broken hearts.  You can trust Him completely with yours.
