Steeple View

Several years ago, we sold our home and began construction on a new home in a new city.  The next six months brought about much change into our lives.  We moved from a spacious home into a small condo until our new home could be completed.  Our daughter graduated from college and moved home with us to begin her teaching career.  My mother-in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer.  We were working and traveling back and forth to check on Teddy’s mother and on the construction of our home.

This could have been a very stressful time for our family.  It was, in fact, a sweet time for us.  That small condo became like a nest for our family.  We were forced to spend time in close quarters rather than retreat to our own spaces.  One of the most precious gifts of that condo stay was that the windows in the master bedroom and the kitchen had in view the steeple of a nearby church.  The cross on that steeple was a daily reminder to me to keep my focus on the Lord’s sufficiency to meet our needs.

I do not believe it was by accident that our house sold quickly and we found ourselves in that condo for that period of time.  I believe God went before us and knew what we needed at that time.  How often do we miss the ways God goes before us to meet our needs?

We moved into our new home and while the movers were unloading the truck, we received a call that Teddy’s mother was dying.  The first night we spent in our new home was the day his mother died.  We have been in our home four years now.  There have been many new challenges.  God continues to be faithful to go before us and meet our every need.

Do you have a steeple view?  Are your eyes on God’s sufficiency or on your own sufficiency?  Look for the ways God is directing your focus today.

II Corinthians 12:9 NKJ
“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Philippians 4:19 NKJ
“And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
